Obtaining CNA certification in Kentucky can be rewarding for those who are willing to serve the elderly and sick people in the society, and wish to get an entry-level job in the nursing field. Step 1– After completing your accredited program program, prepare to take the CNA certification exam.
Step 2 – You may take the certification test at any approved local school or health center.
Step 3 – After passing the exam, your name will be added to the Kentucky Nurse Aide Registry. The state of Kentucky does not issue any license, but you may request for a written proof of certification by contacting the Kentucky Nurse Aide Registry.

All nurse aides are required to renew their Kentucky license biennially. The date on which the CNA has passed his/her nurse aide program examination will be the renewal date of the SRNA (State Registered Nurse Aides) status.

Question 1 – I am planning to move to another state. How can I transfer my KY license?
Answer – Applicants, who wish to transfer their nurse aide certification from Kentucky Nurse Aide Registry to another state, must contact the respective state they are transferring to, in order to know the state’s requirements.
Question 2 – My state nursing aide registration has expired. How can I renew it?
Answer – Since your registration has expired, you cannot renew it. However, you may request for reinstatement of your registry status. You will be required to submit a proof of employment in a nursing-related function for no less than 8 paid hours before expiration date. If you are unable to show the employment proof, contact KCTCS to take the nurse aide classes and competency test again.
